FAVE PODCASTS

Cool episodes of podcasts I listen too: Hard Fork, Acquired, Hidden Brain, Pivot, etc

Hard Fork “Is Google Search Cooked” 3/7/25 https://www.nytimes.com/2025/03/07/podcasts/hardfork-google-ai-mode.html

Google search has been the biggest doorway to anything online for decades. Its dominance has been eroded by product search on Amazon and search within apps like Yelp and Apple Maps, but AI may be its biggest threat yet. Or not! Hard Fork has thoughts.

Acquired “Hermès” 2/19/24 S14, Ep 2
https://www.acquired.fm/episodes/hermes

Hermès doesn’t increase supply to meet strong demand, thus increasing profitability and brand exclusivity. It’s a common tactic but unlike, say, a limited edition colorway or collab, Hermès’s limited supply is deeply on-brand, and due to a real physical constraint. Hint: it’s largely because the brand started as a premium saddle maker.

Hidden Brain “Emotions 2.0: The Logic of Rage” https://hiddenbrain.org/podcast/emotions-2-0-the-logic-of-rage/

I believe differences are best settled through logical, empathetic conversation. Rage is destructive for everyone—especially the one raging. Still, this podcast got me to recognize the rare, but still real, social benefits of rage. And it furthered my appreciation for the diversity of attitudes and responses people have, even the irrational ones.

Pivot “The Apple Vision Pro, Being Present,…” 9/1/23 Ep 434
https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-apple-vision-pro-being-present-and-scotts-hair/id1073226719?i=1000626439523

Pivot’s cohosts Kara Swisher & Scott Galloway usually cover tech/financial news and cultural trends with a mix of academic insight and snark. I dig it but the segment on Being Present, timestamp: 17:50 – 20:10  here really struck me, partly because it resonated but also because of Scott’s sudden vulnerability:

“The fear for all of us is we get to the end of our lives and think: ‘what a life of blessing, what a life of love, what a life of achievement—but I was never really there’.”
